Air handler vs. furnace? An air handler pairs with an electric or heat-pump heat source and a blower; a furnace burns gas or oil. Heat-pump systems typically use an air handler.

What does variable-speed do? A variable-speed ECM blower ramps airflow for better comfort, humidity control, and efficiency versus a fixed-speed PSC motor.

Does it include heat? Add an electric heat kit (heat strip) sized to the cabinet where supplemental heat is needed.
