How to size a glycol chiller for a long-draw system
A glycol power pack chills a propylene-glycol bath and circulates it through your trunk line alongside the beer lines, holding the pour within a degree of the walk-in from keg room to faucet. The dominant sizing factor is run length — the distance from the cooler to the farthest tap. Tap count and ambient temperature add load on top.
Rule of thumb
Plan for roughly ¾ HP per 100 ft of insulated trunk-line run, then add a tier of headroom for high tap counts (16+) or hot mechanical rooms. Undersize the power pack and the beer warms at the far taps and foams; oversize slightly and you simply cycle less.

Air, water, or remote cooled?
Air-cooled is the default — cheapest to buy and run, but it rejects heat into the room and needs clearance around the condenser. Water-cooled holds production in hot, tight mechanical rooms (sometimes code-required) at the cost of water use. Remote condensing moves the compressor outside the space for a quiet room and full output on the hottest line, for more install cost. Micro Matic Pro-Line and Perlick offer all three; the UBC ChillPro and BVL lines are self-contained air-cooled.
Which brand?
Micro Matic Pro-Line is the deepest line — 1,700 to 11,500 BTU, air/water/remote, 1–4 pumps — the safe spec for almost any commercial run. Perlick 4400 Quick Chill is a rugged self-contained line favored for bars and breweries. UBC ChillPro hits a strong price-to-BTU point for straightforward installs, and BVL rounds out the compact end. Replacing a unit? Glycol chiller FAQs
Size by the longest beer-line run first — roughly ¾ HP per 100 ft of insulated trunk line — then add a tier of headroom for high tap counts (16+) or hot rooms. A 100 ft, 8-tap bar is typically a ½ HP / 3,600 BTU power pack; a 400 ft multi-tower run needs 1 HP+ and multiple pumps.
The refrigeration unit at the heart of a long-draw draft system. It chills a propylene-glycol/water bath and pumps it through lines bundled alongside the beer lines, keeping beer cold from the keg cooler to the tap. The glycol never touches the beer.
Air-cooled is the default — lowest cost, but it dumps heat into the room and needs clearance. Water-cooled holds output in hot or tight mechanical rooms. Remote condensing moves the compressor outside the space for a quiet room and full output on the hottest day, at higher install cost.
